OCD & ERP Therapy

When Your Mind Won't Let You Find Peace
Do you find yourself caught in repetitive thoughts, constantly questioning yourself, seeking reassurance, or feeling compelled to do certain things to relieve anxiety?
Maybe you know your fears aren't entirely rational, yet the anxiety feels so real that it's difficult to ignore.
Living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can be exhausting, especially when your mind feels like it's working against you.
At Wholistic Wellness, we offer compassionate, individualized psychotherapy for individuals struggling with obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, anxiety, and the emotional distress associated with OCD.
Serving Frankfort and New Lenox, Illinois, our therapists help clients better understand their symptoms, recognize patterns that maintain anxiety, and develop healthier ways of responding to uncertainty and distress.
When clinically appropriate, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) can help individuals gradually confront feared situations while learning to resist compulsive responses.
Our approach combines evidence-based psychotherapy with compassion, mindfulness, and an understanding of the mind-body connection.
You are not your thoughts. And you don't have to let OCD make every decision for you.
What Is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and a first-line psychological treatment for OCD.
ERP helps individuals gradually approach situations, thoughts, or experiences that trigger obsessive fears while practicing new responses instead of engaging in compulsions.
For example, someone who repeatedly checks whether a door is locked might practice checking it once and then resisting the urge to return for reassurance.
Over time, ERP can help people learn that they can tolerate uncertainty and discomfort without relying on compulsive rituals.
What ERP Therapy May Help You Learn
-
Recognize the OCD cycle of obsessions, anxiety, and compulsions.
-
Identify reassurance seeking and mental rituals.
-
Reduce avoidance of feared situations.
-
Practice tolerating uncertainty.
-
Develop greater flexibility in responding to intrusive thoughts.
-
Reclaim time and energy previously consumed by compulsions.
ERP is collaborative, gradual, and individualized. Your therapist works with you to develop appropriate exercises based on your symptoms, goals, and readiness.
The goal isn't to eliminate every uncomfortable thought. It's to reduce the power those thoughts have over your life.
